Application of Social Networking in Obama Campaign

Obama's social networking site http://www.my.barackobama.com/, know as MyBO did a great deal in helping Obama won the presidential election.

It help rake in cash. MyBO and other main campaign sites made it easy to give money by paying for advertising and staff and by making giving money a social event. "By July 2008, the campaign had raised more than 200 million from more than a million online donors, and MyBO had logged more than a million user accounts and facilitated 75,000 local events."

The internet offer different way to propagate Obama messages. Candidate's speeches and links to a variety of media material are posted online, they believe that when their supporters see these, they will spread out the informations.

The campaign also sent out text messages regularly to check if Obama was prominent on other social networking sites.

  1. What you basically did was a summary of what you read. I do believe it was a great way to become a man of the people by becoming accesbible through the internet. I have to say that there was a alot of media covering the idea of using the internet as his campaigne playground. Obama is the one president to be photographed using a blackberry. The one device that connects you to the rest of the world.

  2. I agree 100%, Obama had a big advantage over John McCain for the election, because of his use of social networking. One of McCains flaws was he had little knowledge about using a computer he didnt even use email prior to the compaign

  3. President Obama and his campaign were very much aware in how useful social networking sites can be for winning an election. I believe future candidates must learn from McCain's mistake of ignoring these sites and must utilize them to there potential.

  4. Everything you said is definitely correct, President Obama seemed to make more of an effort in his social networking skills. Through this he even reached out to the younger generation and actually made them take a vote for the first time. I think in the future many people are going to see this as a way to recieve more votes.
